#46 - Dopesmoker

#46
Artist: Sleep
Album: Dopesmoker
Year of Release: 2003 (among others)
Label: Southern Lord (among others)

One of the many peculiarities of the planet Venus is that its day is longer than its year.  I mention this because here is an album that is shorter than its longest (and only) song.  Sort of.  The first version of the album was released against the band's wishes with a 52 minute running time.  Sleep later released their own vision of the album consisting of a single track that lasts over an hour.  So that's how you pull off that trick.

More than anything else on this list, the word "favorite" is important here.  As you might guess the hour-long track drags at times as riffs blend into slightly different riffs.  And the vocals match the vibe pretty well but (like with Kyuss before them) they don't really need to be there.  But man who cares what a great album to just let time pass to.  Maybe I will try this "marijuana" some day.

YouTube comments are one of the few great places on the internet.  The ones for this album are no exception:
